Andrea's Bday!

Today is Andrea's Bday!

This is the gift that I drew and watercolored for her. Andrea is a big fan of Harry Potter and Ian McKellen. I hope she liked it!! (She's in class right now). And I hope that she doesn't for some reason check this blog before she opens her present too lol. I doubt it though, so yea.

Happy Birthday Andrea!! :D

New Post!

School started so I haven't been able to sketch as much but I try to whenever I find the chance or time. Last weekend Jan and I went to his aunt's baby shower! It was a lot of fun!

Over there I saw a baby present bag that had cute animals on it which inspired me to draw some animals in my own cute way. These are just the three animals that I drew the most from the Oakland Zoo trip.

Here is Jan's aunt sitting down during the party.

Jan and I went to Barnes and Noble in Stockton as usual to sketch a bit. I couldn't get any good sketching done, but atleast I ended up with this piece. Kind of random, actually.

Yesterday I had Art 001 at Washington Square Hall 109. The class wasn't too boring because the teacher seems funny, but since it was the first day there wasn't too much that I had to concentrate on. So I drew the front of WSH while the teacher was talking.

Well that's about it I think so far. I'll keep posting when I can! Soon to come... maybe some 113A stuff once I get the homework done? Probably not the greyscale of course, but maybe when we get to the themed Black and White composition. Stay tuned! :)

Oakland Zoo!

Jan and I are back from Stockton so now I can post the sketches done on Monday!

On Monday Jan, Andrea, Jake, Paul, Austin, and Raymond went to the Oakland Zoo. I had a great time because it was such a great day, lots of animals (happy ones, unlike the sad ones I visited at the SF Zoo), and a great time with friends. Well, here are the sketches:

School starts tomorrow!!! AAHHH!! :P I hope everyone had a wonderful summer!!! See you in schhoooool!!

Fairy!

Yesterday I was delightfully surprised because Chris Palmer bought and sent me the book "Learn to Draw The Fairies of Pixie Hollow", a simple yet cool Disney book about the fairies that accompany Tinker Bell. Thank you so much Chris Palmer! This inspired me to draw myself as a fairy!

It's not quite the same style... but it's still cute! :) I'm not as nearly as cute as this drawing tho. Lol!

Finally a new post! :)

It's been a few weeks since I last posted! Sorry folks! I guess I haven't been as busy sketching lately.. but I've been trying to sketch here and there! First off a character..

This is a Hogwarts version of me in the Ravenclaw house! Inspired by one of my most admirable friends Andrea Rhodes (visit her website at http://www.andrearhodes.blogspot.com) because she did a kickass one of herself (Dre that black version of it is sooooo coool!!!) I decided to do one of myself. It's not nearly as cool as Andrea's but I did a quick rough. There's a lot to fix like her legs and I wished I had more knowledge of drapery so my cloak wouldn't be soo... err... round? Haha. But I plan on fixing these errors in time and do a line version and color it! :)

This is just one of the poses from the previous figure drawing session last week. Unfortunately the rest is on newsprint and I don't have my camera with me at the moment. I'll post them up when I can!

Been trying to draw animals whenever I can.. Santana Row, any pet store like PetCo or PetSmart. Here is a collage of various dogs... (More animals to come cuz I'm going to the zoo on Monday! Yay!)

At PetSmart today, there was a cat adoption thing going on. I tried drawing the cats... but ended up playing with them most of the time :).

More to come! Stay tuned!!

Something different...

I've been trying to draw people a bit more stylized.. like caricatures or something.. Most importantly I wanted to show the confidence in the line quality.. But it seems like I need to work on it more, like with different pens.

Ultimately I want to draw something cool like Stephan Silver, but that will take more drawing and more time!

Next: Perhaps a cleaned up character turnaround for the walk cycle? Stay tuned! :D

Borders!

Jan, Andrea, and I went to Borders tonight to sketch a bit. I ended up spending most of the time there sketching the cafe on the 2nd floor..

Some of the perspective of it is completely wacko, but in terms of an environment study and detail, I think it turned out O.K.

Coming soon... been working on a different stylized version of people studies! Stay tuned! :)

Bill Presing

Chris Palmer showed Jan and I what books he got from Comic Con today. One of the books was by Bill Presing ( check him out at http://billpresing.blogspot.com/ ), a book that I think Sophorn would highly enjoy. It was really good and inspired me to draw one of my own:

I asked Jan what theme should the girl be, and he said "animal!" and I asked what kind, and he said "giraffe." ...So here it is, Giraffe Girl... what a weird theme lol! It doesn't look too much like Bill Presing's now that I look at it more, just a quick imitation. I think I'll study it more, I feel like I can learn a ton from this artist! These kinds of drawings are fun, and maybe I'll try more of different artist's styles.

I've also been trying to upload my Walk Cycle on Photo Bucket, but it seems to be failing. Don't really know why. So I may not be able to show any other animations for now, as it cannot exceed 100MB. But my walk cycle is 70.3MB... hmm... o well!

Till next time!

New! Animation Tests! :)

I'm going to try something new... I've been doing a few animation tests over the summer and let's see if there's a way to put it up in here...

(Just click on the icon above to view)
This is a skip test that I did a few weeks ago after finishing the film "The Princess and the P." by Januel Mercado. The keys are by Preston Blair. I inbetweened the keys and turned it into my own character, a lively little girl with a cute skirt!

Ok let's see if this works now.... *click*

EDIT: Looks like it works! I don't know how to share videos without uploading it on PhotoBucket. If anyone knows how, please let me know! P.S. I don't have my own website or stuff like that.. yet. Hehe.

LONG POST: Sketches from Vacation! :)

Jan and I were on vacation with his family (His mom, dad, sister, and sister's bf) to Las Vegas! We just came back to San Jose yesterday :). It was so much fun! Well, during my stay in Stockton before heading over to Fresno on Sunday to fly out to Vegas, I tried to sketch as much as I could.

At one point I got obsessed with drawing legs and feet because I knew I really sucked at them. I hope to apply and have better skills at feet when figure drawing.

Jan and I went to Barnes and Noble as usual and drew for a while there. Here's an old man reading at the cafe.

Another person from Barnes and Noble, this time a girl wearing lots of pink and her hair was dyed pink too! The other girl is a quick sketch of a woman having a study session with her pals.

Let's see.. since we don't have very good internet service at Jan's house, later at night we went to Java, a cafe with free and fast internet. This is a sketch of their counter.

A character concept for my push and pulling test that I will eventually do after I finish spiffing my walk cycle. He's a little boy who is planning to run away from home but it seems that he packed too much stuff! His bag is so heavy that he has to drag the bag with his toys falling out, eventually trying to push it, and then giving up.

One of the days in Stockton I decided to draw Jan's house. It was SO HOT that I could not finish it! Man, it was like Niagra Falls on my back with sweat dripping nonstop on my face.

Jan needed to get a haircut so he, his mom, and I went to a hair salon. Here it is!

Decided to draw the interior of Jan's house by the staircase. Once again.... it was soooo hot!!!

We went to Jan's sister's bf's parents house for a little bit so that we can get dropped off at the airport. She had the cutest dogs! One was name Gypsy and Jan and I tried to sketch her. She, however, did not give me a chance to finish this, hehe.

At the airport... quick sketch of the plane we were going to ride! :) TO VEGAS, BABY!

I didn't get to sketch at Vegas, but boy did I have a great time! On the trip back I did a quick sketch of a walk cycle...

Last but not least, on the way back here is a character concept for a future drink test. She's going to walk up to a bar, order a martini and drink from it graciously. Little does she know that all the alcohol is on the bottom because they didn't mix it up and makes a face like "oh my god! this is disgustingly too strong!" and spits it out to the side. Then, with hesitation, she twirls it around with the pick and olive it comes with and then sips it again cautiously. Mmm, the martini was delicious!

Well, that's it for Vacation Sketches! Soon to come: more environment studies (hopefully) and finished/cleaned up version of the character concepts. Currently working on finishing/cleaning up the walk cycle and starting the push/pulling test! Stay tuned! :D
