New Nefertiti

New Nefertiti after critiques, advices, etc:

I'm liking this one a lot more. I'm sure there's a lot to fix, I'll ask around.

Amazing how much more work gets done when you don't sleep. *Yawn* come here lovely pillow...

Tut First Drawing

Hello! I finally did a drawing of Tut:

I'm suprised/glad that the second time doing this was a lot easier and faster. Sheldon gave me advice to look at Mowgli and so I did and it helped me a lot.

I'm also going to redo Nefertiti after critiques I got from my upperclassmen friends. It took me a while to understand what it means to play with shapes: Januel, Dave, Andrea, and Paul helped me understand... I can't belive it took 4 people to get the message across in my head! O well but atleast I think I understand it now. Thank you Januel, Dave, Andrea, and Paul! Your advice helped me out so much!! :)

Even so I still see mistakes in the Tut drawing; I like the overall look but the proportions are still too even: the torso and the legs are too similar in size, even though I tried to make the lower body longer. It's hard to let go of even/human proportions as it was what I was practicing this whole time so far. However I do think it's a huge improvement from Nefertiti thus starting over with her to accomidate Tut would be a good idea. I guess I'll see what Sheldon says tomorrow.

That's it for now! Until next time :)

Tut Ideations!

Finally was able to scan and put together my Tut ideations!

I'll do a couple more silhoutte studies and be sketching away! I'm still trying to figure out how old he's going to be, but I'm leaning towards 8 or 9.

B&W rending due this Wed! Ahh!

Nefertiti Revised

Here's a revised version:

I don't like the new hand though. I'll go back to the older one and make it bigger so it'll work with the other hand holding the staff. I'll color her hopefully really soon (maybe when the rendering is done). It'll be in the Disney's Beauty and the Beast style; darker colored outlines with simple shading. Until then... painful painting!

Nefertiti (for Disney feature style)

So I redid Nefertiti after Sheldon's critique and got this:

This was the 2nd half of the process:

I think I like this version a lot better because it has more character. The other one is good for illustrative purposes. There's still a few things I need to fix after what Sheldon corrected. I'll post that one up soon. Then I'll start putting some accessories details and then color! Yay!

Stay tuned for Tut ideations and 113A Black and White rendering!

Just a lil something...

...before I head to class. I did this last night at Art 01.

It's in the similar style as my previous "The Magician". I like to do these random drawings once in a while (especially when I'm in a daydreaming mode).

Black and White rendering due in a week! Stay tuned for a possible final 113A rendering picture or Tut ideations!

Nefertiti Progress

So I've been working on the new Nefertiti design. I thought of what Sheldon said and changed it up a bit. Now she has a bit more personality and attitude. I pushed the initial sketch more so that when I tie it down it won't become as stiff. I like where this is going and I'll keep working on it.

Soon to come, Tut ideations! Stay tuned! :)

Nefertiti Final (Sort of)

Hey guys. After many hours of research, sketching, construction, rythmn, coloring, critiquing from peers and some teachers, here's my final Nefertiti:

There is still a lot of work on, like hard edges vs. soft edges for the shadows, and the shadow shapes. But overall I'm pretty satifsfied with the outcome.

However I showed it to Sheldon today and he drew over it with tracing paper. Overall the critique is it could be more pushed and more interesting, better shapes because my drawing is too stiff. Also if she's a cartoon, she shouldn't go with human porportions, but rather something like 5 heads tall, or 6 heads tall, etc etc. He's right.. this drawing WAS meant for Disney feature, but I guess I should have thought that out..

So I'm sketching again. Nefertiti will be 6.5 heads tall after looking at some model sheets of Jasmine and Belle. Jasmine is 5 heads tall and Belle is 6.5 heads. I wanted to go more with Belle because I love her overall. However Nefertiti will be slightly thinner than Belle, so that means I really need to work on my straights vs. curves (either way whether what shape she is I should anyway) because it will be hard to try to get a graceful feeling to it. Nefertiti is supposed to be bold, powerful with authority, yet a kind woman.

I will take this as a learning experience and do my best to come up with something better. I'll keep everything I've learned so far and use it when I move on to Nefertiti's step son, Tutankhamun. He will be the child version, unlike the young adult version everyone is familiar with, since Nefertiti is still in power.

I hope to get better at this. I'll keep working hard. I also hope that my figure drawings will start to loosen up because I am definately swallowing a really big rat... they're really stiff right now.

Anyways, I hope to post progress on other stuff as well! Stay tuned!
